Insulin Producing Cells – New Research

Transcript: A break through at the University of Pittsburgh could change the way millions are treated for diabetes. Researchers announced they have replicated insulin producing cells! The cells in focus are insulin producing cells in the pancreas called beta cells. What University of Pittsburgh researcher Natalie Fiaschi-Taesch has been able to do is get them to replicate. That could change everything. What Natalie has been able to is to take this tissue culture completely reverse diabetes in these animals. It cured a diabetic mouse. Now the focus turns toward human hours. Doctor Stewart says it could be another five years before these findings impact patients.
